This directory is a finite lookup guide to exactly four public products: GWOSC O4a and O4b bulk strain, the Event Horizon Telescope’s calibrated 2017 M87 visibility release, and the exact imaging-pipeline revision published with the first M87 results. The product identities and links below were checked on 2026-08-25. This is not an archive mirror, an event catalog, or a summary of current scientific conclusions.
Helpful background. Probability and Inference for Gravity explains likelihoods, priors, uncertainty propagation, and selection effects used after a data product has been identified.
Four products, two lookup guides
Section titled “Four products, two lookup guides”| Product | Exact identity | Use this guide |
|---|---|---|
| GWOSC O4a bulk strain | DOI 10.7935/kt51-6n86; archives O4a_4KHZ_R1 and O4a_16KHZ_R1. The DOI resolves, but DataCite/Crosscite citation metadata were unavailable when checked. | Gravitational-Wave Detectors and Open Data |
| GWOSC O4b bulk strain | DOI 10.7935/8emv-ag54; archives O4b_4KHZ_R1 and O4b_16KHZ_R1 | Same guide as O4a above |
| EHT calibrated M87 visibilities | Product 2019-D01-01; DOI 10.25739/g85n-f134 | Horizon-Scale Interferometric Imaging Data |
| EHT M87 imaging pipelines | Product 2019-D01-02; commit 80d230e76c08edd31548e7cfe61dc7cf94300780 | Same guide as the calibrated visibilities above |
The first guide distinguishes calibrated strain from one-second data-quality and injection masks, calibration-uncertainty products, event catalogs, and posterior samples. The second distinguishes calibrated visibilities from imaging code, reconstructed images, emission models, gravitational-scale inference, critical curves, shadows, and horizons. Public availability at one layer does not supply the assumptions or conclusions of a later layer.
Identify the object before analyzing it
Section titled “Identify the object before analyzing it”A reproducible use begins with more than a collaboration or observing-run name. Record the exact release or commit; detector or station; observation interval; source channel, band, and polarization; sample rate or averaging; calibration and quality selection; file format and inventory; retrieval date; rights; and required citation. Keep a publisher checksum when one exists, or freeze the retrieved inventory and compute a local hash while clearly labeling it as a retrieval fingerprint.
Those fields answer three different questions:
- Availability: which bytes or source revision were public?
- Fitness for use: which calibration range, quality mask, injection state, polarization reduction, averaging, and software environment apply?
- Interpretation: which forward model and inference assumptions connect the product to a physical claim?
A DOI can identify a deposit without freezing every mutable convenience file. A Git commit can identify source without resolving an executable environment. Neither persistent identity by itself demonstrates calibration validity, numerical reproduction, or scientific correctness.
Continue with the scientific treatment
Section titled “Continue with the scientific treatment”For GWOSC conditioning, segment selection, calibration propagation, and the distinction between strain, events, catalogs, and posteriors, continue to Open Gravitational-Wave Data Products.
For interferometric observables and calibration, use Very-Long-Baseline Interferometry. For inverse problems and forward-model checks, use Image Reconstruction and Model Fitting. Mutable claims about horizon-scale Kerr tests belong in the dated Horizon-Scale Imaging Tests of Kerr record.
